the end of an era
After 14 art-filled years at 14 Markham St, we are in the sudden position of needing to find a new home. Change is inevitable said someone wise once, and though we are sad and disheartened by this unexpected turn of events, we are optimistic about the future of hub14 and using this shift as an opportunity to imagine how our little organization that could might best serve our community in the years to come.
We will remain at 14 Markham til the end of December 2018. Rentals will continue up until Dec 18th, at which time we will begin the process of moving out.
planning for the future, working on the present
Our intent is to find a new space. As we have no way of knowing what will come of this search, our main focus right now is to help our renters and residency artists find alternative spaces and arrangements for the work they had planned at hub14 over the 18/19 season. If you have leads on a new home for hub, or if you have a space that might be able to help support one or more of our residency artists and their projects, send us a message! Any help you can give will be deeply appreciated as we work to plan for the future and ensure everyone is taken care of in the present.
We also wish to recognize all of you who donated your hard earned funds to help make 14 Markham a better and brighter space during our fundraising campaign last December. The frustrating news is of course that we can't take our refinished floors and painted walls when we leave - and if anyone wants to buy a toilet, holler at us - but your support has given us new chairs and sound equipment we can bring to a new space, and also provided a small nest egg that will help us with expenses related to our move. In other words: please know that regardless of our move, you have made a huge difference in hub14 and its ongoing existence.
friday dec 7th | goodbye 14 markham
For 14 years, 14 Markham has been hub14's home...aka we're not leaving without saying a proper goodbye...aka we're throwing a party! This is your official invite to save the date. Come out and show your love for our little white box as we honour fourteen rad years of independent, community-driven magic making. There will be food and drink and hot beats and dance moves and chilling and crying and stories and love. Come.
with big love,
Andrew, Candice, Jessica, Joe, Molly, + Thea
